SUBJECT: HOSPITAL & CLINICAL PHARMACY-75 HRS

 

 

FOR FIRST SESSIONAL-25 HRS

 

PART-1: HOSPITAL PHARMACY:

 

Chapter 01: Hospitals- definition, function, classifications based on various criteria; Organization, management and health delivery system in India.

 

Chapter 02: Hospital Pharmacy:

  1. definition
  2. functions and objectives of Hospital pharmaceutical services
  3. location, layout, flow chart of materials and men
  4. personnel and facilities requirements including equipments based on individual and basic needs.

 

Chapter 03: Drug distribution system in hospitals

  1. Out-patient services
  2. In-patient services: 1. types of services, 2. detailed discussion of unit dose system, ward pharmacy system, satellite pharmacy services, central sterile services, bed side pharmacy.

 

Chapter 04: Manufacturing;

  1. Economical consideration, estimation of demand
  2. Sterile manufacture- large and small volume parenterals, facilities, requirements, layout, production planning, manpower requirements
  3. Non-sterile manufacture- liquid orals, externals, bulk concentrates
  4. Procurement of stores and testing of raw materials

 

Chapter 05: Nomenclature and uses of surgical instruments, hospital equipments and health accessories.

Chapter 06: PTC (Pharmaceutical Therapeutic Committee), Hospital formulary system and their organization, functioning, composition.

 

 


FOR SECOND SESSIONAL-25 HRS

 

Chapter 07: Drug information service and drug information bulletin

 

Chapter 08: Surgical dressing like cotton, gauze, bandages and adhesive tapes, including their pharmacopoeial tests for quality. Other hospital supply e.g. I.V. sets, B.G. sets, ryals tube, catheters, syringes etc

 

Chapter 09: application of computers in maintenance of records, inventory control, medication monitoring, drug information and data storage and retrieval in hospital and retail pharmacy establishments

 

PART-II: CLINICAL PHARMACY:

 

Chapter 01: Introduction to clinical pharmacy practice. Its definition and scope

 

Chapter 02: Modern dispensing aspects- pharmacists and patient counseling and advice for the use of common drugs, medication history

 

Chapter 03: Communication skill. Knowledge of common daily terminology used in the clinical practice

 

Chapter 04: Disease, manifestations and pathophysiology including the silent symptoms to understand the disease like tuberculosis, hepatitis, Rheumatoid arthritis, cardio-vascular diseases, epilepsy, diabetes, peptic ulcer, hypertension

 

Chapter 05: Physiological & biochemical parameters with their significance to drug administration

 

 

 


FOR THIRD SESSIONAL-25 HRS

 

Chapter 06: Drug interactions:

    1. definition & introduction
    2. mechanism of drug interaction
    3. Drug-drug interaction with reference to analgesics, diuretics, cardio-vascular drugs, gastro-intestinal agents, vitamins and hypoglycemic agents
    4. Drug-food interaction

 

Chapter 07: Adverse drug reactions:

    1. definition and significance
    2. drug induced diseases and teratogenicity

 

Chapter 08: drug in clinical toxicology- Introduction, general treatment of poisoning, systematic antidotes, treatment of insecticide poisoning, heavy metal poisoning, narcotic drugs, barbiturate, organophosphorous poisons

 

Chapter 09: Drug dependences, drug abuse, addictive drugs and their treatment complications

 

Chapter 10: Bio-availability of drugs, including factors affecting it

 

Chapter 11: Therapeutic Drug Monitoring- Introduction and application
